{Review} Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry

Pushing the Limits
Author: Katie McGarry
Publish Date: July 31, 2012

Pages: 384
"I won't tell anyone, Echo. I promise." Noah tucked a curl behind my ear. It had been so long since someone touched me like he did. Why did it have to be Noah Hutchins? His dark brown eyes shifted to my covered arms. "You didn't do that-did you? It was done to you?" No one ever asked that question. They stared. They whispered. They laughed. But they never asked.
"An edgy romance that pulls you in and never lets go. I was hooked!"-Gena Showalter,  New York Times bestselling author of the Intertwined series
So wrong for each other...and yet so right.
No one knows what happened the night Echo Emerson went from popular girl with jock boyfriend to gossiped-about outsider with "freaky" scars on her arms. Even Echo can't remember the whole truth of that horrible night. All she knows is that she wants everything to go back to normal. But when Noah Hutchins, the smoking-hot, girl-using loner in the black leather jacket, explodes into her life with his tough attitude and surprising understanding, Echo's world shifts in ways she could never have imagined. They should have nothing in common. And with the secrets they both keep, being together is pretty much impossible.  Yet the crazy attraction between them refuses to go away. And Echo has to ask herself just how far they can push the limits and what she'll risk for the one guy who might teach her how to love again. {Goodreads}

Ok, there I was, searching through Netgalley, looking for what I could request, and there it was. Hmm... should I? Let me look on Goodreads and see what other people have said and read the summary. *Looks* only one of my friends had read it!! I couldn't believe it...*reads* hmm...sounds pretty good! Request! YAY!!!! I got it!! *Starts reading* HOLY MOTHER OF PEARL!!! Right from the get go, Ms. McGarry had me glued!

This book was flipping amazing!! I loved the alternating POVs from Noah to  Echo and from Echo back to Noah. Granted, with the Netgalley ecopy I was hard telling when Echo's stopped and Noah's began but I got through it. There was no way that was going to stop me from reading this book! (btw..reading from Noah was absolutely no doubt the best!) ;)

Katie McGarry had the bad-boy-with-a-broken-past down packed!! She literally got the perfect boy description! Noah was an amazing character! Man! Did I love this boy or what! My favorite part of the whole book would have to be shared with Noah. A certain little scene involving a little boy, his award, his book, and his hero. O. My. Goodness! That was the cutest scene ever!! It had me close to tears! (happy tears ya'll!) Sure Noah has the f word in his vocabulary....sure he was a druggy....sure! he is a social outcast and known for his one-night stands! But that is just the facade he puts up to hide his pain and loss. There is so much more depth to Noah and I loved reading into his mind. Especially when it came to his brothers and Echo!

And as for Echo? Great too! I loved the way her name had to do with her mom's stories. Weird name. Yes. Cool meaning. Duh! Man, this girl has had it tough the past two years. And not just because of her social decline: popular chica to out right freak! Sad how people do that. Just because someone misses some school and comes back with long sleeves everyday doesn't automatically mean she attempted suicide or cuts now. But that's how it is isn't it? We make assumptions and we don't care if those hurt the person. Sad. Anyways! Yes there is a reason Echo came back with those long sleeves everyday and secluded herself. She was her own mother. Her mother tried to kill her. As of that wasn't tough enough....Echo doesn't remember that day. I feel bad for Echo but I also love her that much more. How strong she is. A role model indeed.

Now...put Echo and Noah together..... Echo+Noah=perfection! Probably the cutest couple since Ash and Meghan!! Katie does an extrodinary job with character description!! Each character you understood in some way. Each character was "hand crafted".

This is one of those book where you have way too many thoughts (all positive) to put into this review. I will probably just ramble haha Ms. McGarry did a phenomenal job! This book will pull on the reader's heartstrings and leave them wanting more. I sure as hell did!! I couldn't put the book down! I loved following Echo and Noah and seeing them face their troubles and grow together through their troubles!

This is a book everyone needs to read and love. Everything from the writing, the characters, the puzzle of Echo and Noah's life, the reader's journey to reveal each individual puzzle piece and put it all together, the romance, the heart brake, the tears, the laughs( and there where lots! McGarry does NOT disappoint in humorous wit!), the the smiles, the oo's and ah's, the way Noah's words make you melt and feel all tingly inside ;)

Pushing the Limits has everything! And I am serious when I say it leaves no disappointment! I would recommend it to anyone and everyone! So get your copy in June! Then thank me later... ;)

So, lately I have decided to not rate as generously. Meaning: your gonna see a lot more 4 and 3 stars. Yes, I'm cracking down hard on how often I give out 5 stars so you will know whether or not it is absolutely amazing or not. A book should only get 5 stars if it's well deserving of the title right? I am going to start sticking more true to the meanings I have givin to each star on my Rate Page. That being's my rating of this book....

HELL YES! This book deserved these 5 stars!!!
So....You all need to buy this book when it comes out at the end of July!
No doubt about it!!

Thanks for stopping by!

Besides my number one! My book husband....I would choose Puck! Well...maybe not...something besides or along with him would pop out and I have a feeling it would be described as the entertainment...not the good kind....and! God! So hard!!!.......AH! Ok blurting out: Alex from Delirum! I could spend all day listing all the guys I'd want in my delicious cake but! I would rather not bore you ;)

{Book Review} Lies Beneath by Anne Greenwood Brown

Lies Beneath
Series: Lies Beneath (#1)
Author: Anne Greenwood Brown
Published: June 12, 2012
by Delecorte Books for Young Readers
Source: ARC by Netgalley
Pages: 303
Calder White lives in the cold, clear waters of Lake Superior, the only brother in a family of murderous mermaids. To survive, Calder and his sisters prey on humans, killing them to absorb their energy. But this summer the underwater clan targets Jason Hancock out of pure revenge. They blame Hancock for their mother's death and have been waiting a long time for him to return to his family's homestead on the lake. Hancock has a fear of water, so to lure him in, Calder sets out to seduce Hancock's daughter, Lily. Easy enough—especially as Calder has lots of practice using his irresistible good looks and charm on unsuspecting girls. Only this time Calder screws everything up: he falls for Lily—just as Lily starts to suspect that there's more to the monsters-in-the-lake legends than she ever imagined. And just as his sisters are losing patience with him. {Goodreads}
Lies Beneath is (once again) a first for me. A first of what? My first mermaid/merman book! Ya, I have never read one in my life! ...Well, unless you count The Little Mermaid children's books. Haha And let me tell you.....The Little!!! *gasp!* Yupp! You heard it folks! A lie!!! :O Mermaids aren't these nice happy people...merpeople...of Atlantis. *tears up* Ya, it's kinda depressing. So, what are mermaids you ask? Let me tell you. But be might be a wittle frightened.... Mer-people are vicious, coldblooded killers! *another gasp* I told you!! You surprised? be honest...I wasnt lol I knew that there were sirens and not-so-nice-mermaids. That that is what they actually are. Then why go through all this? Cus...I have a flair for the dramatic and....I had never read a book where the mermaid../mermen...are killers.

This book took an even bigger turn. In this book the mermaids../mermen..kill for one reason. Reason being: They have to feed(kill) for the chance to feel positive emotion. Now I don't know about you but for me...I had never heard of this. Again I knew mermaids were actually killers but I never heard this reason. Pretty cool right? So yes, indeed, they put on a show to lure they're prey into the water (how exactly...they're good looks! Duh!) and suck out all of the raw positive emotion out of them so that they can fill they're own emotionless void.

But of course that's not the whole theme of this book. In this book...these mermaids...and one merman...have another reason to kill...revenge. Bumm Bumm Bumm!! Long ago, they're mother was killed. A promise was broken. And a dept needed to be paid. A dept with the price of one man...a be killed.

I loved this book for all the creativity and how it goes into a perfect amount of detail of the mermaids. Not too much information where it seems that that is only what the book is about. Not too less where you have absolutely no clue what the heck is going on but the perfect amount where you get your story line and understand everything you need to know.

I loved that it was written from Calder's pov. I loved Calder! He was hot and he knew it...but not as vain as his sisters. He had depth. Depth no one could made him real, mysterious and oh so very likeable!

I loved Lily! How she played along as if she didn't have a care in the world! about Calder!! She is classified in my book as one tough a$$ chica! Sure, she didn't go into battle weilding a sword like some crazy intense girl. Sure she didn't save the world. Sure!!! She didn't have to race against time as the whole world as we knew it was falling apart!!! But! She deserves the title..why? Cus she fought Calder! Haha yes. That wins a metal. She fought his charming good looks and persistent character. His lovely entrancing voice. His perfection and his words. Of course...she eventually gave in but hell! Who wouldnt! She fought as long and as hard as possible! PLus! She made the ultimate sacrifice! She was brave and she fought for family!

This book was so good!I am soo glad I got it on Netgalley! The ending was twisted and some parts I didn't see coming! The plot kept me intrigued and the writing kept me enthralled! Oh! And the title! Well picked! Two different meanings in itself! I say dive into this book head first and go for a leasery swim! Hahaha look at me! Trying to make puns! ;b I was sucked into this book from the first page! Go read and go love! Seriously guys!

Thanks for reading and stopping by! :)

{Review} Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater

Author: Maggie Stiefvater
Published: August 1, 2009
by, Scholastic Inc.
Source: Bought (physical copy)
Pages: 392

When the temperature slips towards freezing, Sam reverts to his wolf identity and must retreat into the woods to protect his pack. He worries that eventually his human side will fade away and he will be left howling alone at the lonely moon. A stirring supernatural teen romance. {Goodreads}

I have to be honest in all my review right? Ya, I know I do. But I also know that almost every single one of my favorite bloggers absolutely adored this book.....and I....did not. Well, not at first that is.

So I bought the whole series along time ago and hadnt yet read them so I decided to finally one day. So, I started it! Duh!!! And then....I stopped. It was pretty boring. Then I went on goodreads to look at my friends were saying and came to the first review I saw. One of my favorite bloggers....H.D. If any of you have read the review you obviously know what it says...if not...go read it...(Review).

Now...Don't bash on him ok? Yes, its not one of those raving reviews but its honesty. And that is what, we as bloggers, are supposed to do. We shouldn't butter up a review and be fake just cause other people really liked that particular book. Or just cus we don't want to hurt any feelings. Of course you should hurt feelings by bashing a book. Soooo not part of the blogger code!(if there is one haha idk..maybe I should make one??) ;) We need to be honest....whether we liked the book or not. We need to express our true thoughts! And that's what H.D. did...and I agree! Like 100%!! But I think liked it a bit more than he did.

So I'm going to have to brake this review into a sort of pro vs. con review.....starting with cons so we can end on a good note ya? :)

So....lets start with...The love story. I really do think it was all a bit familiar don't you think? uhm I don't know....Twilight familiar? ...this was something I agreed with H.D. on. Sam (Edward) was the creepy stalker who was an obsession of Grace's (Bella). She didn't know why but she loved him...he fascinated her...(the wolf). Those yellow eyes that haunted her every thought. And she was the one he couldn't stay away from. He felt it was his duty to protect her....and someday be with her. But in this story..Grace can't talk with her obsession cus he is a wolf. But then one day....they meat person to person...

One...WOAH!!!!! Nice meat and greet huh? ;) Naked guy on the porch! haha .....anyways skip, that night after the hospital...(cus of circumstances)...and she invites him to her room. WOAH!! (again) you just met the dude! Yes he seems familiar. Yes he just told you what he was but uhm!!! Red flags should be going off!!! What if he is just crazy!? What if he is some stalker killer who put on contacts cus he was watching you and your wolf obsession!!? But wait...she flippin invites him to sleep in her bed!!!! Again...agreeing with H.D. here!! What if he were to kill her!? its just a book. Ya let your imagination run free! And two...none of that happens but still...girl needed some common sense.

Then we have a quicky love story. Seriously. Day two..not even actually it was just the morning after they met.....and they make out in the kitchen. Ya, Sorry but no. But honestly you have to keep reading and then it's cute. You just can't think about the time they have known each other on a human to human basis and your all good! That is what I had to do...imagine they knew each other longer than they did.

Now.....for the writing....Once again agreeing with H.D. I love how authors try to be different and unique. It's great! Go for it! I love different! I love that some of you I can read a page and guess...Oh! Yupp! That could only have been written by "so an so". Its awesome!! BUT!!! Please! I love you Maggie but this line bugged me as much as it bugged H.D. And I couldn't have agreed more with what he had to say so I am going to quote the quote and what H.D. had to say....

"'I was a leaking womb bulging with the promise of conscious thoughts...'

What. The. Heck. I re-read this sentence a million type. I couldn't get over that. What the heck was this? This weird, totally scary metaphor. I'm all for this adventurous prose. I'm all for authors trying new things and trying to stand out and be different. But to compare the idea of having conscious thoughts to a woman's LEAKING WOMB just isn't...real? Would any male (or even female, for that matter) take the moment in extreme agony or frustration to point out that: YEAH, I fell like a leaking womb!

I don't think so."

Ya, that pretty much sums up my thoughts on that. And like he said.. don't hate...its a matter of opinion. and again good for Maggie and her comparisons! I liked most of them while others...just weird. I'm sorry but that's just how I felt. I LOVED her song lyrics for Sam! LOVED LOVED LOVED!!!! I loved her other comparisons most of the time. Go for unique! Go for colored vocabulary but PLEASE!!!!! Do not. go. off. the. deep. end!! Colorful is for intense moments. for when other simple words can't express the things that are going on but not. like. this. please. Again love stuff like this. But please don't over do it. I think I made myself pretty clear now! :) Sorry and thanks.

Oh..and personally...Sam didn't quite make my crush list yet..(YET!) He was a bit too clingy..stalkerish in book one...Idk I love him! And I adored him at the end! And his story!!! Two words: heart breaking. I loved him for it! It made him a bit more stronger and likeable! Loved him but...waiting a bit! ;)
Sorry ladies!! :b

  1.  The love between the two of them was sooo beautiful!! I loved the adventures, the heart ache, the romance.
  2. I loved all the side characters! Maggie did an awesome job with character description!
  3. Sam's lyrics! SOOOO CUTE!!! Die! Swoon!!
  4. All the background and folklore (idk if I used that word right) description and outlining!
  5. The scenery description! Beautiful!!
  6. The end!!! GAHHHHHH!!!!!! <3 x100
  7. The alternating POVs

Advice: If you are going to read this book......
  • And like it from the beginning....YAY!!! I'm so glad!! Maggie deserves all the fans she has gotten!! I'm glad you had no problems!! YAY!! YAY!! YAY!!! (no sarcasm whatsoever!) That is great! :)
  • And didn't like it from page 1.....keep reading! It gets better! Honestly...I kept reading for one reason and one reason only....I had bought the entire series already and Goddammit I was going to freakin finish what I had paid for whether I liked it or not. And guess what!!? I don't have to have an agonizing time reading the rest of the series because I ended up liking it in the end! And am on book 2 now...yes it takes awhile to read sometimes but I do like it! :) So you keep reading and hopefully you will come to like it too! Keep reading and don't give up! Or stop and pick it up some other time! Who knows, your thoughts might change! :)
Now...3 stars cus I did end up liking it! It would have gotten two due to the fact of finishing just to finish but I think it deserves the three star rating because I liked it in the end!! :)

I hope this will help ya! Thanks for reading and stopping by! :)

{Interview} with Kristi Cook~Author of the Winterhaven Series

~About the Book(s)~
       Haven (Winterhaven, #1)Mirage (Winterhaven, #2)
~Buy on:

~The Interview~
* What are you most excited about for the release of Mirage? More than anything, I'm excited to share more of Violet's and Aidan's story with the readers who enjoyed HAVEN!

* Indoors or outdoors? How come?  Outdoors!  At least, if the weather is nice.  There is nothing better than sitting in the shade on a warm, sunny day and listening to the birds and crickets and the breeze ruffling leaves.  Totally reminds me of the easy, carefree summer days of my childhood.

Do you ever get writers block? If so how do you get through it? Definitely.  The only way to get through it is to just force myself to sit down and write *something*, even if it's awful and slow and painful.  If I'm really and truly stuck on a story, I'll work on another project instead.  Sometimes it's just a matter of needing to let a story percolate in my head a bit more before I can finish writing it.

* Does your protagonist relate to you in anyway?  Well, we're both from Atlanta!  But honestly, that's about it.  I guess you could say that she's the girl I wish I was in high school.  She's definitely stronger than I was, and I really like her cool friends!

* Do you like salty food or are you more of a sweet tooth?  Definitely a sweet tooth!  I wish I could eat a cupcake every single day.

* Do you have any plans for any new series? If so, care to share? ;)   I'm actually working on the beginnings of a new YA Sci-Fi series right now!  It's very different from the Winterhaven series, but so much fun!  I guess I'd say it's a cross between Logan's Run (only people alive in the 1970s will get that reference!) and the classic novel Lost Horizon.

What is one of your fondest childhood memories?  Hmmm, fondest?  Well, it's not any one specific thing, but I really loved playing with my friends in the woods in and around our neighborhood in Atlanta when I was in middle school.  We had such freedoms then that kids today just don't have.  We'd all roam through the woods, jumping over creeks and climbing over downed trees, leaves crunching beneath our shoes.  We'd pretend we were adventurers or explorers, or castaways on a desert island.  Way, way better than playing video games, trust me!
*Totally agree with you on that!! I would have loved to roam the woods and have little adventures thaan all this texting and technology! But...I still love my technology haha but yours sounds more fun for sure!! :)*

{Review} Cinder by Marissa Meyer

Series: Lunar Chronicles (#1)
Author: Marissa Meyer
Published: January 3, 2012
by Feiwel & Friends
Source: Bought (physical copy)
Pages: 400
Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, the ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl. . . .
Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future. {Goodreads}

This book was amazing! This book is so unique and completely and entirely wonderful!! Even though it has the Cinderella theme to not expect a re-telling. No. This book was far beyond a was so beautifully crafted into an almost original. If you ask to read me the story of better read me Cinder cus no version of Cinderella is better than this one. (And I am hoping I made some sense in this paragraph!)

Marissa Meyer was completely and entirely genius! Everything from the time, the effort in creating a history for this futuristic world, the Lunars, the secrets, the disease, the beginning, the end!!!! Wow....I'm at a loss for words yet again! I seem to be in a good book streak! ;D I loved how not everything went as Cinderella went but still had those recognizable moments. And those moments were re-told so uniquely to fit this story. The dad...the ball....everything! It was sooo awesome!

I think I'm safe to say that Cinder was a bit of an intro book. You got who Cinder is, who Kai is, the disease that is infecting them all, the world's peace, the Lunars who are threatening war, some history of the Lunars, how all came to be what the world is now, etc.....But the real action starts at the very last page. That is what makes me sooo excited for the rest of the series!

Because of me feeling it was more of an intro I don't have too much to say but I will say this: This book was a wonderful master piece. All who haven't read it. Read it. Yes, it's a retelling of Cinderella. Yes, you kind of know the basics for what is going to happen because it's a retelling of Cinderella but dont and I mean don't you even dare to think you know it all cus guess what!? You don't. No. Not at all. You will find so many pleasant surprises that..if your like me.... you will find yourself loving the story of Cinderella even more because of Cinder. And I do. I wish Cinder was the original story. Cus its just that bad ass! (pardon my language).

I really enjoyed this book. You will to so you know what to do! I'm giving Cinder a 4.5 star rating (yes th pic will only be four stars but only cusgoodreads doesn't allow half ratings therefore my blog rate pics don't either!) only because of my feeling of an intro but that's just how I feel. But I have this awesome heart pounding feeling that this next one will get one of those rare 100000000 star ratings! Hurry up Scarlet!!!!!! I need you now! ;D

Thanks for reading! :)

Last spring, Nikki Beckett vanished, sucked into an underworld known as the Everneath, where immortals Feed on the emotions of despairing humans. Now she's returned- to her old life, her family, her friends- before being banished back to the underworld... this time forever.
She has six months before the Everneath comes to claim her, six months for good-byes she can't find the words for, six months to find redemption, if it exists.
Nikki longs to spend these months reconnecting with her boyfriend, Jack, the one person she loves more than anything. But there's a problem: Cole, the smoldering immortal who first enticed her to the Everneath, has followed Nikki to the mortal world. And he'll do whatever it takes to bring her back- this time as his queen.
As Nikki's time grows short and her relationships begin slipping from her grasp, she's forced to make the hardest decision of her life: find a way to cheat fate and remain on the Surface with Jack or return to the Everneath and become Cole's... {Goodreads}

So this is another one of those books where I really really wanted to read the day it came out all guessed Now? Summer. Meaning? I read it.

I'll admit. This book started out pretty slow. But it was ok! That's the way it was supposed to be!! Poor Nikki was confused and emotionless. Do I blame her? Heck no! That poor chica had been through alot! Cutest thing: What made her Return!

You ask me? #TeamJack forever!!! He is soo cute! I am personally fond of the whole best friend turned relationship story. Never gets old for me! :D And their story: perfect!! Gah! Now don't get me wrong...I love Cole! ...just a little less than I love Jack. Jack's feelings are undeniable! Their relationship screams pure love when Cole's....its more of a possesional thing. But I admit...after one particular scene *cough cough* (the winter dance) that feeling...changed. I really wanted to believe Cole when he said he truly loved her and only wanted what was best for her. It made my heart ache and then I was as confused as Nikki. I couldn't decide which boy I liked better...until the end. That end (which I will rant about here in a second) was the tie breaker for me. Hands down...Jack is my love! <3

And agin...this is one of those books that leaves me speachless. Honestly I have no freakin clue what to say in this review! Brodi did an AMAZING job by giving the myth a nice modern day twist/retelling! I felt the pain and loss from Nikki and enjoyed watching her piece it all back together and try to regain her relationships!

Now be warned. Her distance and ignorance was what made it hard for me to read at first. I wanted to put down the book because it was getting rather boring. But then everything picked up and it became a race against time! So intense!!! Word of advice when reading this book: Don't put it down. No matter how hard it may be for you to get into it. No matter how boring you think it is...DO. NOT. STOP. READING!!! I repeat: KEEP READING AND DON'T GIVE UP!!! YOU WILL REGRET THAT DECISION!!!!

And with that out of the way....the most amazing part of the whole book!!!!>>>>>>>>>>> The end!!!!! *SCREAMS* O. my. goodness!!!! You guys I have to say that was the best ending ever!!! Seriously!! It was sooo freaking terrible! And for some reason..whenever I think about this ending I can't help but compair it to the Titanic. Anyone else?? No? Was it just me?? O well. Ya so I'm not going to give anything away but I will leave you with this....Have your covers covering you. Ya, be all snug as a bug in a rug! Have a glass of water if you start choking on your own tears and of that I've mentioned the word tears....Have a ENTIRE box of Kleenex next to you.

Yes, if you are anything like will ball your little eyes out!! Seriously. I don't think I've cried that much since The Iron Queen (The Iron Fey series #3). I had the mascara running, hiccups, rocking back and forth repeating "No. No. No......"  the whole nine yards ya'll!!! I....I'm getting all teary eyed just remembering!!! Hahaha I went down stairs to my mom and the first thing she said: "Woah! We need to get you some waterproof mascara when youre reading now don't we!?" And then of course I went into her lap and balled my eyes out again. Choking on the words as I tried explaining the most terrible news I had ever read!!! *along side The Iron Queen*

Ya, so I'm just going to leave you with that. This book is getting the amount of stars I'm about to display souly for the ending. I mean the rest of the book was amazing and deserves the amount of stars but the ending sent it over the top! My reward: 10000000000000 stars!!!!! (o.O) I am sooooo looking forward to book 2!!!!!! I need more!!! :D

Get this book everyone!!! You will need it!! ;)

Thanks for reading! :)
